Phone call From Sharon June 30th at 10 PM tonight!

As expected Honduras always seems to dish out obstacles for Sharon and Amanda when they first arrive as well as most every day in Honduras!  The country of Honduras was celebrating a Holiday and everything was closed up tight,  getting essentials needed for communication with us here in the States was not in the cards. Today they managed to make the trip into the City for supplies for the Day Care and they were able to get a Cell phone for calling home and also the Tigo card for them to get onto the internet and update this blog themselves!  They have been dealing with over 90 degree and humid weather, bumpy roads, exhaust fumes, smells and dust all day today and they will work on getting themselves connected to the internet during the day tomorrow. It sounded like the girls needed to get some sleep from my conversation with Sharon tonight!  The pounding their bodies take on the roads in Honduras catches up to them!

They are safe, getting the Day Care ready for the service team and working with the children, everything they live for! Keep your thoughts and prayers with them as they continue to work their magic!

Hopefully the next post will be Sharon or Amanda's entries!

  4. Heidi,
Chatting with your family may be a very hard thing to do while on this trip. Cell phones from USA usually do not have reception or cost a fortune to use from Honduras! Cell phones in Honduras can be purchased if you can get to town to the city to get set up with a local cell phone.

Be prepared to have minimal contact with your family. Instruct them to watch this blog for postings about your arrival and happenings while you are in Honduras.

If you have the opportunity, Sharon or Amanda will have a cell phone that perhaps you can buy minutes and use their phones to briefly update your family with a call home. But I am sure from my past experience with Sharon and Amanda being over there, contact is always minimal with us back at home!

  5. Another note on Communications back home for service team members! Make sure you can log into your personal email account from a web browser. That will most likely be your best way to get notes back to your family, if you can gain internet access!

We loaded Sharon's laptop with Skype and so far either they have not had time, or the internet connection is to weak to use this, because I have not had any contact via, email or Skype yet.

So ALL service team members.. make sure you tell your family, "NO News is Good News!" if there is an emergency, they have cell phones and I will get a call and relay information to your families!

  6. Hi I am setting family members up with the Daisy info so they can check the trip blog. I figure that will be the easiest way for them to know that everything is fine unless their is an emergency.
